Welcome Note

My Ph.D. research has been funded by the European Space Agency under the contract No. 4000109064=13=NL=PA.

I am currently a PhD Candidate in the field of Robotics Vision, with the European Space Agency (ESA) through the Networking/Partnering Initiative (NPI), at the Democritus University of Thrace. I am mostly honoured to be guided by my Advisor, professor Antonios Gasteratos.

At the time of writing, I work at ESA's European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Automation and Robotics Laboratory, Noordwijk, Netherlands. Here, I am involved in several internal lab projects as well as conducting experiments in the context of my PhD research, under the supervision of my ESA TEC Tutor, Head of Automation and Robotics Section TEC-MMA, Gianfranco Visentin.

Since 2009 I am a proud member of the Group of Robotics and Cognitive Systems where along with my colleagues, I have been employed in some very interesting Research Projects. The highlight of my previous project experience is the ESA funded ''SPARTAN" activity, where we developed robot vision algorithms for Space Exploratory Rovers.

OCCUPATION:

Robotics Researcher, PhD Candidate in Robotics Vision

HOMETOWN:

AGRINIO, Greece

CURRENT CITY:

Research Interests

My research interests include holistic and modular systems for robotic applications. I have designed and developed complex systems and have hands on experience in all stages of robotics systems, from low level control to sensor driven autonomy (e.g. using Robotics Vision). In the case of Robotics Vision, I am interested in probabilistic approaches and intelligent autonomous systems based on machine learning. Since 2009, I primarily utilize and promote community-based open-source frameworks, specifically the "Robot Operating System" - ROS (and lately the "Robot Construction Kit" - ROCK). Moreover, I am hooked on Matlab for rapid prototyping of my algorithms. Finally, I was lucky enough to work on large scale projects such as EU and ESA funded ones, and I have interest to continue doing so.
