|I was born in Athens, Greece on 10 March 1972 and brought up in Lefkimmi, Corfu, Greece. I moved to Corfu town in 1986 and to Xanthi in 1989.
I received the Diploma and the Ph.D. degrees both from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. The basic object of my doctoral studies was the development and implementation of fast new algorithms for non-linear image processing.
During the biennium 1999-2000 I moved to Genoa, Italy, where I was with the Laboratory for Integrated Advanced Robotics (LIRA), Department of Communication, Computer and System Science, University of Genoa with a TMR grant. In LIRA my research was in the area of vision and other sensing systems for mobile robots.
In 2001 I carried out my military service in the corps of Research and Informatics of the Greek army.
During 2002-2003 I served as visiting Lecturer for two semesters and as a visiting Assistant Professor for one semester at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace , teaching “Automated Electronic Measurements”, “Electrical Circuits I” and “Interfacing Digital Systems”.
In May 2003 I was elected Lecturer of Robotics at the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, in October 2006 Assistant Professor (tenure in October 2010) and in July 2012 Associate Professor at the same Department.
I have served as Delegate High Level Representative for Greece in EUREKA initiative (2009-2010); the Greek member of the General Assembly at the AAL joint programme (2010-2012). I also have served as member of the European Robotics Network (EURON) board, (2010 – 2012).
Check here for a full resume of mine (pdf), available also in Greek (pdf).
My research interests include: artificial vision systems, cognitive vision, autonomous robots, intelligent mechatronics systems, safety issues in mechatronics systems, sensor fusion, digital VLSI and FPGA systems design, digital signal and image processing, computer architectures and specialized processors for robotics, vision and pattern recognition.
