On Friday, 25 September 2026, the RoboCARE research team participated in Researchers’ Night in Xanthi, hosted at the Athena Research Center, presenting the project’s ongoing research and technological developments to the public.
During the event, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about RoboCARE’s vision for the development of socially-aware, adaptive, robust and explainable robotic systems designed for trustworthy and human-centred interaction.
The RoboCARE team presented live demonstrations of technologies currently being developed within the project, including AI-based visual place recognition, facial emotion recognition, human pose estimation and action understanding, and context-aware robotic interaction. These capabilities form part of the project’s broader research framework, which integrates perception, adaptive intelligence, explainable decision-making and embodied robotic behaviour.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to engage with visitors, students and fellow researchers, demonstrate RoboCARE technologies outside the laboratory, and discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Social Robotics in the development of future human-centred robotic systems.
Public engagement and dissemination activities such as Researchers’ Night are an important part of RoboCARE’s mission to bring emerging robotic technologies closer to society and foster dialogue around trustworthy, explainable and socially-aware Artificial Intelligence.
RoboCARE is developed by the Laboratory of Robotics and Automation at Democritus University of Thrace. The project is implemented in the framework of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) “3rd Call for H.F.R.I.’s Research Projects to Support Faculty Members & Researchers” (Project No. 26465).
