Antonios Gasteratos
I was born in Athens, Greece on 10 March 1972 and brought up in Lefkimmi, Corfu, Greece.

I received the Diploma and the Ph.D. degrees both from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. The basic object of my doctoral studies was the development and implementation of fast new algorithms for non-linear image processing. In the biennium 1999-2000 I was with the Laboratory for Integrated Advanced Robotics (LIRA), Department of Communication, Computer and System Science, University of Genoa, Italy, with a TMR grant. In LIRA my research was in the area of vision and other sensing systems for mobile robots. In 2001 I carried out my military service in the corps of Research and Informatics of the Greek army. During 2002-2003 I served as visiting Lecturer for two semesters and as a visiting Assistant Professor for one semester at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace , teaching “Automated Electronic Measurements”, “Electrical Circuits I” and “Interfacing Digital Systems”. In May 2003 I was elected Lecturer of Robotics at the Department of Production an Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, in October 2006 Assistant Professor and in July 2012 Associate Professor at the same Department.

My research interests include: artificial vision systems, autonomous robots, sensor fusion, digital VLSI and FPGA systems design, digital signal and image processing, computer architectures and specialized processors for robotics, vision and pattern recognition. Vasileios Sevetlidis

Vasileios Sevetlidis has an academic progression characterized by diversity and distinction. He started as an undergraduate student in Informatics Engineering, where he was taught among other topics the concepts of Information theory, Algorithmics, Image Analysis, and Software Engineering. Just before his graduation, he started a collaboration with the Athena Research Center, as a research associate. During this collaboration he got exposed in emerging technologies applied in Cultural Heritage. This experience led him, later, to pursue a Master of Science in Applied Archaeological Sciences. Note, that both in his undergraduate and postgraduate studies he achieved the distinction of Summa Cum Laude. Currently, he is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Production and Management Engineers in the Democritus University of Thrace, under the supervision of Prof. Antonios Gasteratos.

His diverse interests span also in non-academic areas. At his youth, he was a swimmer competing in the Greek National Championship for several seasons. During his undergraduate studies, he was training as a marksman in air pistol shooting (Olympic sport), securing a ticket to the National Championship as well. Generally, he enjoys recreational activities in nature. He is a keen backpacker traveler, a hobby he couples with street photography, his artistic passion. Nowadays, he attends a sailing class at the weekends. He drinks a lot of coffee.

The research for his PhD thesis: “Machine learning based modular and self-configuring plug-and-work systems” involves Machine Learning in combination with Cyber Physical Production Systems (CPPS), aiming at the advancement of Industrie 4.0 technologies.
