Ioannis Kostavelis


Dr. Ioannis Kostavelis is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Laboratory of Robotics and Automation, aka Group of Robotics and Cognitive Systems. His area of experise concerns the Semantic Mapping for mobile robotics tasks.

He was born and brought up in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1987. After high school graduation, he became accepted in the Department of Production and Management Engineering in Democritus University of Thrace.  He received his diploma in 2009 and returned in his native city, to fulfill his Master studies. There, he obtained his M.Sc. in Informatics inAristotle University of Thessaloniki in February, 2011. Since then, his deep interest in robot vision motivated him to start a Ph.D. journey under the supervision of Prof. Antonios Gasteratos in the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. 

His Phd thesis title is "Spatiotemporal coherent semantic maps with mobile robots". His diploma thesis title is "Real time obstacle avoidance, using solely stereoscopic vision", whereas his M.Sc thesis title is "E.E.G. analysis with exploratory techniques, for the discovery of hidden patterns".
